Shark Tank India: Perfora, a Gurgaon-based oral care startup, has received backlash on social media for glorifying an unhealthy work culture. The startup had shared two posts on Instagram that received criticism from Twitter users. One post highlighted an employee who had barely slept for a month and was responsible for order packing and dispatching. The other post showed a worker amidst scattered boxes in their warehouse, with the caption claiming the ops team had been working until 3 am to dispatch orders.
Perfora faces social media backlash
Twitter users called out the startup for overworking its employees and glorifying sleep deprivation. One user tagged Shark Tank judges while responding to Perfora’s social media posts. The post read, “Perfora has raised a total of $3.7M in Series-A funding, as well ₹80L investment on Shark Tank @peyushbansal @namitathapar @vineetasng. are you guys funding startups that exploits its workforce? Is it not sufficiently funded to hire to meet rising demand?”
Another user criticized the startup, stating that sleep-deprived employees should not be something to brag about. Some users pointed out that such posts indicated everything that was wrong with modern-day work expectations.
About the company
Perfora, founded by Jatan Bawa and Tushar Khurana in 2021, offers an array of dental care products, including flavoured toothpaste, electric toothbrushes, dental flossers, and oral health combos. The startup recently appeared on Shark Tank India and secured a deal worth 80 lakhs.
However, the startup’s posts have raised concerns about the company’s work culture and employee well-being. Overworking employees can lead to burnout and negatively impact their mental and physical health. Such practices also promote an unhealthy work culture that may be harmful to the overall productivity and morale of a company.
