Discussions about nepotism in Bollywood are common and they usually focus on the advantage that star kids are seen to have over outsiders. This controversy has recently erupted again around the online series ‘Heeramandi‘, especially in light of Sharmin Segal’s (Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece) portrayal of Alamzeb. In spite of her connections to industry insiders like as Janhvi Kapoor and her family, Sharmin’s performance in ‘Heeramandi’ has come under fire, prompting inquiries into the extent of nepotism in her career.
Criticism Amidst Opportunities
Although Sharmin Segal have appeared in a few of her uncle Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films but it wasn’t in the role of an actor. She began her career in Bollywood behind the scenes as an assistant director on films like as “Bajirao Mastani” and “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela.” She didn’t make her acting debut until 2019 in “Malaal,” which was sadly a box office failure. She had a major role in “Heeramandi,” starring alongside well-known actresses like Manisha Koirala, but many viewers weren’t impressed with her performance.
Segal has faced criticism throughout her career, despite the fact that her closeness with Janhvi Kapoor and her affiliation with Bhansali have surely given her opportunities in Bollywood. Despite appearing in well-known films like “Malaal” and “Heeramandi,” she hasn’t yet established a name for herself as an actress.
Mixed Reception and Career Prospects
While Sahgal has opportunities because of her contacts in the film industry, her failure to receive broad acclaim implies that talent alone might not be enough in Bollywood. Her success will ultimately depend on how good an actor she is, even though her friendships and family may provide a platform.
