Shehzada: Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon starrer much-awaited film Shehzada hit the theatres on February 17. Kartik’s previous film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was a massive box office success as it collected a terrific number on its opening day last year.
However, Shehzada started on a slow pace and also faced strong competition with Shah Rukh Khan’s superhit venture Pathaan. According to reports, Shehzada on its first day got a lukewarm response and minted anywhere around Rs 6.50 crore to Rs 7.25 crore at the box office. This is Kartik Aaryan’s lowest opening in the past four years. Even his 2019 film Luka Chuppi had raked in over Rs 8 crore on the opening day.
Release pushed back by a week
The movie was initially supposed to release on February 10, but the release was pushed back to the 17th, which may be the reason for its low opening day numbers.
The movie sold 17,400 tickets in advance bookings for Friday at national chains, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. He took to Twitter and shared an update on Shehzada’s advance booking. “SHEHZADA’ ADVANCE BOOKING… Tickets sold for *Day 1* at NATIONAL CHAINS… Update: Wednesday, 10.30 am. #PVR Fri: 4,295 #INOX Fri: 1,550 #Cinepolis Fri: 1,450 Total tickets sold for *Day 1*: 7,29.”
Remake of Allu Arjun’s Telugu film
Directed by Rohit Dhawan and produced by Geetha Arts, Haarika & Hassine Creations, T-Series, and Brat Films, Shehzada stars Kartik Aaryan, Kriti Sanon, Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Sachin Khedekar, and Ronit Roy in pivotal roles.
Shehzada is the official Hindi remake of Telugu superstar Allu Arjun’s film Ala Vaikunthapurramloo. Kartik’s film is clashing with the highly anticipated Ant-Man And The Wasp. The Hollywood film is expected to give tough competition to Shehzada. It reportedly sold over 1,06,500 tickets in advance booking while Kartik-starter managed to sell only 25,825 tickets.
