Sholay’s Soorma Bhopali died at the age of 81.

Bollywood actor-comedian Jagdeep died at 81, on Wednesday, at his residence in Bandra. He got recognized as a comedian from Shammi Kapoor’s film Brahmachari, and was best known in  Amitabh  Bachchan and Dharmendra starrer ‘Sholay’ for his role as Surma Bhopali.

The actor, whose real name was Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri, had not been keeping well because of age related issues, producer Mehmood Ali, a family friend told PTI.

The late actor, in his career spanning several decades, appeared in more than 400 films including Sholay, Purana Mandir, Andaz Apna Apna, and Phool Aur Kaante, among others.

On the work front, Jagdeep was last seen in ‘Gali Gali Chor Hai’. starring Akshaye Khanna, Shriya Saran and Mugdha Godse in the lead roles. Helmed by Rumi Jaffrey, the fim was released in February 2012.
