Shruti Haasan is basking in the success of her recently released film Salaar alongside Prabhas. The actress made headlines once again because she is going to headline the international project. The lead role in the intercultural romantic comedy Chennai Story will be played by actor Shruti Haasan. Chennai Story, which explores themes of “love, self-expression, and acceptance,” is an English film with Welsh and Tamil intercut. It was written and directed by BAFTA winner Philip John.
Shruti Haasan to play lead role in Chennai Story
Haasan plays a feisty private investigator named Anu in this coming-of-age romantic comedy, which is based on Timeri N. Murari’s book “The Arrangements of Love.” The film is set in Wales and India. Alongside British actor Viveik Kalra (Blinded by the Light, Lift), she will feature in the movie. Chennai Story is supported by the UK Global Screen Fund of the British Film Institute (BFI). The film seeks to be produced under the bilateral UK-India Co-production Treaty, with supporters in Wales, the UK, and India.
Did Shruti replace Samantha Ruth Prabhu?
For the unversed, Samantha Ruth Prabhu declared in November 2021 that she would collaborate on an Indo-British project with Philip John, the director of Downton Abbey. The Arrangements of Love, the best-selling novel by Timeri N. Murari published in 2004, is adapted for the big screen in this English movie. But Shruti Haasan and Viveik Kalra will now be the leading roles in the coming-of-age romantic comedy.
