Balwant Kataria, often known as Bobby Kataria, is a controversial social media celebrity who was detained on suspicion of human trafficking. Following a combined raid at his Sector-109, Gurugram, home by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Gurugram Police, Kataria was taken into custody. According to the police, Kataria was detained on Monday on suspicion of trafficking in human beings two young people from Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, Kataria is the subject of an IPC section 370 case that has been filed at the Gurugram police station’s Bajghera branch.
How He Was Caught?
The complainants, Hapur resident Manish Tomar and Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh resident Arun Kumar, claimed to be unemployed. Afterwards, they communicated with Kataria (the jailed Bobby Kataria) via Instagram. The complainants informed the police that they had seen an ad on Bobby’s YouTube channel, MBK, proposing a job abroad. They then gave Bobby Kataria a call on his WhatsApp. Bobby pretended to be able to secure them a job overseas and invited them to meet at his office in Sector 109.
The complaint then paid Rs 2,000 for registration and saw Kataria at his office on February 1, 2024. Following that, on February 13, at Bobby Kataria’s request, Rs 50,000 was deposited into his official account, which was set up under the name MBK Global Visa Private Limited.
The case also registered under 420 IPC
Gurugram Police PRO Sandeep Kumar said, “On the inputs of Central agency, Gurugram Police had conducted a raid based on a complaint from a person to whom Bobby Kataria had told that he can get him a job. Kataria took Rs 4 lakhs from the man and his friend and sent them to Laos. The two people were taken to a fake call centre where they were beaten up and forced to work there. Bobby Kataria was arrested from his office yesterday. He has a criminal background with 7 cases. Case registered under charges of human trafficking and 420 IPC.”
