Sonakshi Sinha: Known for her powerful performances in mainstream blockbusters, Sonakshi Sinha has also dabbled in more artistic, non-traditional cinema. In a previous candid chat, Sinha revealed her experience of making the conscious decision to star in the critically acclaimed ‘Lootera,’ despite warnings from those around her.
Choosing Unique Roles in an Industry Dominated by Commercial Cinema
Prior to her choice to participate in Lootera, Sonakshi had already tasted success in commercial hits, including ‘Dabangg’ and ‘Rowdy Rathore.’ But when the script for ‘Lootera’ came her way during her “masala film” phase, she found it offered a “refreshing change.”
In a 2017 interview with Filmfare, Sinha explained her decision to choose the role in ‘Lootera,’ where she played a tuberculosis patient. She highlighted that she didn’t select the role to prove a point but because of the compelling script and character.
Despite the advice of many around her, who claimed it was the wrong time for her to engage in such ‘arty’ films, she felt strongly about the character and decided to go against the grain. Today, she is delighted by the appreciation her brave decision received.
Lootera’s Critical Acclaim Overshadows Box Office Performance
Under the direction of VikramadityaMotwane, ‘Lootera’ was brought to life, drawing inspiration loosely from the classic work ‘The Last Leaf’ by O. Henry. The film featured the talented duo of Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh. Although the film’s box office performance didn’t quite ignite, it received a wave of positive critiques, highlighting its artistic success despite the lukewarm financial returns.
Both Sonakshi and Ranveer’s performances were lauded and the film’s songs, such as Monali Thakur’s ‘Sawaar Loon,’ were highly praised.
Sonakshi Sinha: Her Journey Continues
Recently celebrating her birthday, Sonakshi is enjoying the success of the Prime Video series, ‘Dahaad.’
Sonakshi Sinha’s tale serves as an encouraging reminder to emerging actors: Staying true to oneself can lead to tremendous success, even if it means taking the road less travelled in the film industry. Despite discouragement, Sinha’s choice to step outside the commercial cinema sphere and experiment with different roles continues to resonate, inspiring many others to follow suit.
