Sooraj Pancholi: Bollywood actor Sooraj Pancholi used to harass late actress Jiah Khan physically and verbally, her mother told the special court in Mumbai on Wednesday. The actress allegedly died by suicide in 2013.
Sooraj Pancholi, who was in a relationship with 25-year-old Jiah Khan, has been charged with abetment of suicide in the case being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation, or CBI. Currently, he is out on bail.
On Wednesday, Jiah Khan’s mother Rabia Khan began recording her evidence in the case before special judge AS Sayyad. Rabia told the court about her daughter’s entry into Bollywood, her career progression, and relationship with Pancholi. She said, Pancholi had contacted Jiah Khan through a social media site and insisted on meeting her.
Jiah Khan was initially “apprehensive and reluctant”, but the two met for the first time in September 2012, Rabia Khan said. She told her daughter’s daily routine was “taken over” by Sooraj Pancholi and the couple had started living at each other’s house by October 2012. She recalled that the actress appeared to be very happy during her visit to their London home in November 2012.
Rabia Khan said Jiah then returned to Mumbai for her professional work and was supposed to return to celebrate Christmas, but she did not. On December 24, 2012, Rabia Khan told she received a message from Pancholi, saying he got angry with Jiah Khan after a fight with a fellow and she (Jiah Khan) should forgive him and give another chance. “At that time, I discovered that the two had a violent fight,” she said.

Jiah Khan decided to give him another chance and the couple went for a trip to Goa, said Rabia Khan. Though, in one of her phone calls Jiah Khan complained about being at a very strange place and not willing to stay there, she said.
In Goa, he used to humiliate Jiah in front of other friends and flirt with other women in her presence, Rabia Khan claimed, citing conversations with her daughter. On February 14, 2013, Jiah Khan suddenly turned up in London and looked sad. According to Rabia Khan, Jiah Khan told her that Pancholi harrassed her verbally and physically, and also started calling her by “dirty names”.
Rabia Khan’s testimony will continue on Thursday.
On June 3, 2013, the actress was found hanging at her residence in Mumbai by her mother.
The CBI claimed Jiah Khan wrote a three-page note that detailed her ordeal and was found by the Mumbai Police on June10,2013, when they began their investigation into the case.
According to the central agency, the note described Jiah Khan’s “intimate relationship, physical abuse, and mental and physical torture” at the hands of Pancholi, which led her to commit suicide.
