In a development in Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Raput’s death case, a Mumbai court on Friday sent his former flatmate Siddharth Pithani, arrested in Hyderabad and brought here, to the custody of the Narcotics Control Bureau till June 1. Pithani has been arrested in a drug case that came into light after the death of the actor last year.
One of the prime suspects in the case, Pithani was absconding since long. He was arrested by the NCB in a joint operation with its Hyderabad office on Wednesday, May 26. He was then brought to Mumbai and produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at the Esplanade Court this afternoon, which sent him to NCB remand for four days.
The NCB lawyer said that the anti-drug agency wants to prove his role in Bollywood drug nexus which might be bigger than assumed. His arrest came nearly comes three months after the NCB filed a chargesheet against him and 33 others, including the deceased actor’s ex-girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty.
Pithani was one of the earliest persons who saw actor’s body found hanging in his Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020. The death of the actor was considered the one by suicide, however, multiple investigations were launched after Sushant’s family accused foul play.
