Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty pleaded with Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday, January 5, to do something to erase the stigma associated with the industry. He also demanded CM Yogi to address the Twitter trend ‘#BoycottBollywood’.
During an interactive session with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was in Mumbai for a two-day visit to discuss filming and investment opportunities in Noida Film City, actor Suniel Shetty lamented the boycott campaign’s impact on Bollywood. He also emphasised the importance of returning audiences to theatres and changing the impression of Bollywood/Hindi movie people as all engaging in wrongdoing.
Suniel Shetty said Bollywood has produced good films
“I’d want to discuss the hashtag #BoycottBollywood. This would stop if you spoke something about it. It’s vital to let people know that we’ve done a lot of excellent stuff as well,” Shetty added. The 61-year-old went on to add that while Bollywood has produced some good films, people have acquired a negative view of the industry, which needs to be rectified.
“Everywhere there is one rotten apple, but you can’t count all of us that way. People nowadays think of Bollywood as a horrible place, but we have made some good films here. I was also a part of one such picture when I did Border. I’ve been in a number of good movies. We need to join together and figure out how to get rid of the hashtag #BoycottBollywood. We need to figure out how to stop this tendency,” Shetty added.
Suniel Shetty also requested that CM Yogi meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the anti-Bollywood campaign, alleging that “99% of the people” in the industry are nice.
‘99% of us are good people’
“UP and the people from there gave me fans, and that’s why I am Suniel Shetty today. If you take the initiative, this is highly likely. It is critical that we shed the stigma that has been placed on us. It’s a powerful feeling for me. It hurts me to inform you that we have this stigma, yet the vast majority of us are not. We don’t do drugs all day, and we don’t do bad jobs. We are connected with high-quality work. Bollywood music and our stories have bridged the gap between India and the rest of the world. So, Yogi ji, it will make a tremendous difference if you take the initiative and speak with our dear Prime Minister about it,” he added.
