Taapsee Pannu: It was a big challenge for Taapsee Pannu to play the character of Mithali Raj
in Mitali’s biopic ‘Shabaash Mithu’. She told how a woman cricketer has to face difficulties in the country. Taapsee also saw it by connecting it to films. She said, ‘There are two religions in our country – cricket and film. If you call yourself a cricket-loving country then you should love women’s cricket equally, you are not just a cricket-lover country of men. Cricket matters, not gender. Similarly, the gender of the protagonist should not matter. It should be about how the film is. If you are a male protagonist then you pre-book a film but wait for the reviews for a female protagonist.
Didn’t know much about Mithali
Taapsee expressed her embarrassment for not knowing about Mithali’s journey and achievements until she expressed displeasure at being compared to her male counterparts in cricket. The cricketer retired last month after representing India for more than 23 years.
