The Legend of Maula Jatt: The release of Fawad Khan and Mahir Khan starrer Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt in India has been indefinitely postponed. The film was to release in Indian theatres on Friday on December 30. There is no clarity about when and if it will release.
The Legend is claimed to be Pakistan’s biggest film. It is doing exceptionally well on the box office in Pakistan as well as worldwide.
Opposition from certain sections
In India The Legend of Maula Jatt was to release on Friday Zee Studios had acquired the rights for it and were expecting the film to do well. But because of opposition from certain sections, the decision was made to not release the movie.
In the meanwhile, actor Fawad Khan in an interview expressed disappointment over cancellation of its release in India. He said, one day you hear it is releasing, then you come to know it has been cancelled. He believed that the film, if released in India, will certainly do good to bilateral relations between India and Pakistan. He was talking to a Hong Kong channel. He shared the interview on his Instagram account.
Fawad, Mahira in lead roles
Directed by Bilal Lashari, The Legend of Maula Jatt features actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan in lead roles.
The film released in Pakistan on October 13 and is a commercial hit. It has entered Rs 200 cr club. The film is a modern adaptation of cult classic Maula Jatt.
Pakistani artists stopped being cast in Indian productions after the terror attack in Uri in 2016 in which 19 Indian Army personnel were killed. The decision came amid demands by various political outfits to ban Pakistani artistes from Indian films and from performing in India.
