The Lord of the Rings on Amazon Prime: Amazon is known to take risks on projects, but none of this magnitude. Come this fall, Amazon prime video is officially dropping its new blockbuster series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
The streaming giant has been quite cagey about details on the series. Besides a couple of calculated drops, they haven’t released much on the series. How it’ll fill in the blanks on a lesser-known time in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth history is a mystery.
The show premieres on September 2, however, Amazon Prime Video has not yet announced how many episodes will drop at once.
The latest trailer debuted at the San Diego Comic-Con and featured the most in-depth look at the Middle-earth show yet. As is ominously teased by Queen Regent Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) to Galadriel: “It is here, the moment we feared.”
Rings of Power falls well before the timeline of the blockbuster Peter Jackson movies, which take place primarily in the Third Age. However, this prequel series will set up a lot of the events of the main Lord of the Rings books and movies.
So, we cannot expect any of the beloved characters from the original trilogy, as it’s well before their time. No Frodo, Bilbo, Aragorn, or Legolas in the show, but there are some recurring characters—although they’re much younger than we’ve come to know them.
