Kantara: Movies made in the south are on a roll these days. The latest one is Kannada film Kantara that is winning hearts all across. Directed by Rishab Shetty, Kantara saw its Hindi release today. Union Minister Anurag Thakur met team Kantara today and wished them good luck. He shared photos with the producers on his Twitter.

Kantara is having a phenomenal run at the box office. Released on September 30, the film has grossed ₹58 crores in Karnataka alone and is being dubbed and released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Kantara stars Shetty as a Kambala champion, who comes to loggerheads with an upright DRFO officer, Murali (Kishore). Achyuth Kumar and Sapthami Gowda feature in supporting roles.
Rishabh Shetty, who has written and directed the film is receiving appreciation from the audiences and critics. The film narrates the conflict of ignorance and its hardships in a captivating way.
Three timelines
The film presents three timelines: 1890, 1970s and 1990s. Since many references through books were not available, the makers took the help of the tribes residing in Keradi where it was also filmed. Costume designer Pragathi Shetty stated that the makers “travelled the entire village and met the tribal community, who gave details about their dress.”
She added, “We had most of the junior artists roped in from Kundapura, and it was a challenge for me to convince them to wear tribal costumes. We also took reference to design the costume for the forest guard, played by Sapthami Gowda. We heard each year, the colour of the uniform would change, and everything, including the badges was customised.”
Filming took place in four forest locations in the area which included a set being built reflecting the 1990s.
