Upcoming Tamil Films: The Tamil cinema industry is now going through an exciting period. Kollywood’s immensely skilled directors have finally managed to achieve a balance between film quality and economic viability. Tamil film is producing some amazing content that can travel throughout the world and appeal to viewers of all languages and cultures. The huge popularity of films such as Ponniyin Selvan and Vikram are prime examples of this. So, when it comes to 2023, Tamil cinema is in for some exciting times, with several highly intriguing productions about to hit theatres. Let’s take a look at the most anticipated Tamil films of the year.
Thalapthy 67
The most anticipated Tamil film at the moment is Thalapathy 67 aka Leo, an upcoming mafia drama starring Thalapathy Vijay. The project, the star’s second collab with hitmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, has been igniting the internet with its unique announcement teaser, which was unveiled on February 3, Friday. The film, which stars Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priya Anand, Mysskin, Mansoor Ali Khan, and others, is set to hit theatres on October 19, this year.
Poniyin Selvan 2
The long-awaited sequel to Mani Ratnam’s magnum movie, which was released in 2022, is due to enter theatres on April 28, this year. Ponniyin Selvan 2 is also expected to recapture the magic of the original chapter, which became Tamil cinema’s highest-grossing film of all time. The major cast of Part 1 will return, including Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi, and others, while a slew of new faces are slated to play key roles.
Jailer
The highly anticipated dark comedic thriller, which marks Rajinikanth’s debut collaboration with director Nelson Dilipkumar, is expected to hit theatres in August. Muthuvel Pandian, an elderly prison officer, is played by the iconic superstar in Jailer. Mohanlal, the Malayalam superstar, makes a cameo appearance in the film. Shiva Rajkumar, a Kannada celebrity, plays the main antagonist in the film, which also stars Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi, Vinayakan, and others in supporting parts. Sivakarthikeyan is said to be appearing in a cameo role.

Indian 2
In a few weeks, veteran actor Kamal Haasan will complete filming on his big movie Indian 2. After numerous delays, the film, directed by veteran S Shankar, has finally reached the final phases of production. Although the release date has not yet been announced, Indian 2 is scheduled to visit theatres in the second half of 2023.
