Veteran Gujarati artist and theatre personality, Arvind Joshi, father of Bollywood actor Sharman Joshi, has died on Friday. He was admitted to Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital due to age related ailments. He was 84.
“He was suffering neurological issues and had chest infection. He was there at the hospital for more than a week in the ICU,” The Hindu quoted a source from the hospital as saying.
Renowned movie critic and trade analyst Komal Nahta shared the sad news on his official Twitter handle as he wrote, “Veteran and respected actor-director of Gujarati theatre, Arvind Joshi, passes away. Condolences to son Sharman Joshi, daughter Mansi Joshi Roy, and entire family.”
Writer Mayur Puri also paid his tribute and wrote: “One of the first people in Mumbai to help/ encourage me as a writer. I’m heartbroken. Deepest condolences.”
Filmmaker Anil Sharma tweeted, “Very sad to hear about sad demise of Shree Arvind Joshi Ji. My heartiest condolences.”
Arvind Joshi, a veteran of Gujarati theatre, has also acted in several Bollywood films including Sholay and Ittefaq. He is survived by his wife and two children, Sharman Joshi and Mansi Joshi Roy.
