Tabassum: Veteran actor and radio artist Tabassum passed away on November 18 after she suffered a cardiac arrest. Her son, Hoshang Govil, broke the news to media that she breathed her last on Friday evening.
Tabassum was in her late 70s. Her family is in a shock as she was absolutely healthy, said her son.

Family in shock
“Mother passed away last night around 8.40 PM due to cardiac arrest at a hospital. She was absolutely healthy. We shot for our show 10 days ago. We were about to shoot again next week. It happened all of a sudden,” said her son.
He further said that she was suffering for gastro problem and had to be admitted to a hospital in Mumbai. She was later discharged but was admitted again on Friday following complications. She had two cardiac arrests within two minutes and passed away.
A prayer meeting in her memory will be held here Monday evening, the family said.
Tabassum started young
Tabassum started her career as child actor in 1947. She made her film debut as a child actor with Nargis and starred in many films, including Mera Suhaag (1947), Manjhdhar (1947) and Bari Behen (1949). Her last film was Swarg (1990).

In 1972, she began hosting the popular Doordarshan celebrity talk show Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan which she hosted till 1993.
As times changed, she launched her own channel on YouTube, called “Tabassum Talkies” with son Hoshang. In the show Tabassum used to discuss the lives of many cinema figures and movies of the bygone era.
Last she was down with COVID-19 and had to be hospitalised for 10 days.
