Chalapathi Rao: Veteran actor Chalapathi Rao, known for his roles in Telugu films, passed away on Sunday after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 78 years old.
Many movie stars posted on social media to pay tributes to the popular Telugu actor. Chalapathi Rao is survived by his wife Indumaty, two daughters and a son. His son Ravi Babu is a director, actor and producer. Chalapathi Rao was staying with his son in Banjara Hills MLA Colony, Hyderabad.

Second tragedy in two days
Tollywood industry was yet to overcome the death of snior actor Kaikala Satyanarayana who passed away two days ago when this tragedy occurred. The sudden death of Chalapathi Rao has left the Tollywood film industry in a shock.
Rao had done nearly 600 films and was known for his comic roles. His films include Sakshi (1966), Driver Ramudu (1979), Vajram (1995), and Bollywood film Kick (2009).
He made his debut in the film industry with the movie ‘Gudhachari 116’ in 1966. Chalapathy Rao worked as a producer for other films like Kaliyuga Krishnadu, Kadapa Reddamma, Jagannatakam, and Pellante Nurella Panta.
Rich repertoire of work
Chalapathi Rao was close to Sr. NTR. He acted with three generations of actors. Some of his acclaimed films include Yamagola, Yugapurushu, Driver Rama, Akbar Saleem Anarkali, Bhale Krishna and hundreds of other films. Chalapathi Rao’s last film was Bangarraju last year.
Funeral on Wednesday
The actor’s last rites will be performed after his daughter comes from America, his family members said. Till then his mortal remains are being kept at Ravi Babu’s house where fans can come and have a last glimpse of him.
