Vicky Kaushal: Director Laxman Utekar confirmed that Bollywood star Vicky Kaushal will play Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in his next film. The director of “Mimi,” who has worked with Kaushal on a yet-to-be-released romantic comedy, said the actor was the ideal choice for the historical role. Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is the son of the Maratha empire’s founder, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
“His personality, his appearance as well as his height and physique, will be perfect for the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He’s also a fantastic performer. We didn’t do any look tests because I was confident that he was the right person to play Sambhaji,” Utekar told PTI.
Vicky Kaushal will get special training
“He will train for four months in sword fighting, horse riding and a few other things. And once we’re satisfied, we’ll begin shooting,” he explained. The cinematographer-director expressed interest in bringing Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s story to the big screen. “We’ve seen many films about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, but no one knows how great and courageous warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was, or what he contributed to the Maratha empire and Maharashtra,” Utekar added.
Film will be produced by Maddock Films
According to the director, the film is in pre-production and will begin shooting in August-September. The untitled film is backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, with whom Utekar has collaborated on two hit movies — “Luka Chuppi” and “Mimi” — in the past.
Utekar revealed that post-production work on his romantic comedy film starring Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan is currently underway. “The film is finished, and it will be released theatrically in April,” he said.
