Sivakumar, the father of Tamil industry superstars Suriya and Karthi, often remains in the news because he keeps doing something controversial. In 2018, Sivakumar was in the news after he threw away the mobile phone of a fan who was trying to take a selfie with him. He found himself in the centre of trolling because the video went viral online. Now, he again found himself at the receiving end of trolling due to a new video which has gone viral. It showed him throwing the shawl of a fan.

Sivakumar was spotted at the book launch of politician Pala Karuppiah. At the event, someone attempted to honour the actor by shrugging a shawl over his shoulders as he was leaving the stage. Sivakumar, who has drawn harsh condemnation from people online, grabbed the shawl from the person’s hand and threw it aside.
Several local media platforms shared the video, criticizing Sivakumar’s behaviour and asserting that he hasn’t changed after the 2018 event. However, it turns out that the person, Karim, has been Sivakumar’s friend for 58 years. Sivakumar was only friendly after discarding the shawl because he objected to his friend treating him like a movie star.

Renowned actor Sivakumar debuted with the 1965 Tamil film Kaakum Karangal. Throughout his career, the actor has won three awards for best actor, and in 2007 he received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. He is the father of actors Suriya and Karthi. He was last seen in the 2022 film Kathir.
