Grammy Awards: All eyes are on Sunday night when the 2023 Grammys will be announced. However, none of the BTS members have shown any signs of attending the award night.
Ignored by the Academy for several years, this is the first time when BTS has been nominated in more than one category and the septet’s chances of taking home a gilded gramophone is high. But does it even matter anymore?
BTS nominations at Grammy
The South Korean boy group scored their first nomination at the Grammys in 2021 when their first full English track, ‘Dynamite’, was up for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Award.
Next year again the group earned nomination in the same category for their hit track ‘Butter’. However, the award went to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s ‘Rain On Me’ the first time and to Doja Cat featuring SZA’s ‘Kiss Me More’, the second time.
This year BTS earned 3 nominations for Album of the Year as contributors to Coldplay’s ‘Music of the Spheres’, Best Music Video for ‘Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)’ and finally a return of the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category nomination with ‘My Universe’ also alongside British band Coldplay. Their chances of winning a Grammy Award is high this time.
Septet has high chances this year
BTS fans believe that the septet had high chances of winning in the previous years but they were snubbed by the Grammys both times. So far none of the BTS members has shown any sign of attending the ceremony this year. Their silence seems to be an indication of their step back from the ceremony.
Grammys awards committee has been accused of snubbing multiple globally famous artists countless times. BTS fans claim that the Recording Academy has only used the South Korean icons as a marketing tool for trying to raise its viewership ratings. The large numbers tuning in to watch them perform only prove the point.
