The much-anticipated film Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, is likely to have a big box-office debut. However, the upcoming G20 Summit in Delhi may dampen the mood for fans in the national capital. The Summit, slated for September 9-10 in Delhi, will bring together leaders of state from around the world, including US Vice President Joe Biden. Security measures are likely, particularly in areas of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) region.
These PVR theatres will be closed
The Executive Director of PVR-INOX Ltd Sanjeev Kumar Bijli stated that four PVR theaters — PVR Plaza, Rivoli, Odeon, and ECX Chanakyapuri — would remain closed during the Summit. These are single-screen theatres with a total seating capacity of roughly 2,000 people. Fans who had planned to see Jawan in these historic places will have to adjust their plans. Although the closures are a modest part of the film’s overall commerce, they may have an impact on the atmosphere and experience that fans were looking forward to.
PVR sold across 2-5 lakh tickets
Bijli, on the other hand, minimized the impact, pointing out that Delhi had a four-day weekend. He told PTI, “On opening day, we sold about 25% of the 10 lakh capacity, which is equivalent to 2.5 lakh tickets sold across PVR INOX (screens). It is a very large number, and preliminary estimates indicate that it may be larger than Pathaan,” Bijli told PTI. While the Summit is an important event for international diplomacy, Shah Rukh Khan’s core Delhi audience may find the timing frustrating.
