Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The pride of India based on the 1971 war, is a tribute to 50 years of Victory over Pakistast and to mark the year, will premier on StarGold this Dec 26th at 8 pm. The film is about the courageous 300 women from a village near Bhuj who repaired the airfield destroyed by bombing, in three days, while bombs continued to drop around the airfield.
Speaking about this incredible idea that 300 women left their village, and their kids and families to repair that airfield – Ajay Devgn says, ” Bhuj: The Pride of India which will premiere on 26th Dec, 8 PM on Star Gold, is a tribute to the incredibly courageous 300 women who left their children at home and came to construct an airfield in the middle of a war. These women put their country above their families and their own safety. They according to me are the real heroes and this story has stayed with me since I heard it.”
Equally inspiring is how air force officer Vijay Karnik realized the danger the country was in and how he convinced the village women to come on board. Ajay Devgn adds, ” Air Force officer Vijay Karnik shows exemplary courage. What struck me about this brave officer was not just that he fought a war in the skies, he thought on his feet about how to tackle a situation where they were on such a backfoot with a destroyed airfield and the way he motivated a whole village to repair that airfield in record time. I am so proud to be associated with a film that honors the supreme sacrifice made by our country’s soldiers fifty years ago. This film is also a salute to the sacrifices they continue to make even today to keep us safe”
On playing patriotic characters, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Air Force officer Vijay Karnik in Bhuj: The Pride of India, in two films one after another, Ajay Devgn says, “I’ve been fortunate to play patriotic characters from the start of my career. I was humbled when I was offered the role of Bhagat Singh by Shri Raj Santoshi. I marked my 100th film with Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. Post which, I was happy to play a character based on Wing Commander, Vijay Karnik. Bhuj was an enriching experience and I am excited for India to watch the World TV premiere of Bhuj: The Pride of India on 26th Dec, 8 PM on Star Gold.”
