Wrestlers’ protest: Actors Swara Bhasker and Sonu Sood have come out in support of wrestlers who have been protesting over sexual harassment allegations. They are sitting in protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment. Top wrestlers like Sangeeta Phogat, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and many others are part of the protest.
On Friday Sonu Sood tweeted in support of wrestlers. He tweeted in Hindi, “The sportspersons of the country will definitely win the battle of wrestling against injustice. Jai Hind.”
Swara too showed her support as she shared a video message on Twitter and wrote, “Shameful that our top International athletes are forced to protest on streets against sexual harassment but accused BJP MP is being consistently shielded by the govt. #IStandWithMyChampions. Sack & investigate #BrijBhushanSharanSingh.”
Swara Bhaskar questions political leaders
In the video, Swara said she is not supporting them because they are international level athletes but because if this is the condition of such notable wrestlers, what will be the fate of a common woman/victim. She also questioned the leaders of the ruling party who enjoy getting clicked with these athletes when they win medals for the country. The same leaders are now maintaining distance from them, she said. She also requested people to come in support of the wrestlers.
In another tweer, Swara wrote, “Literally protecting a rape accused.. again! This is our democratically elected govt. Some part of this is on us too folks. #IStandWithMyChampions.”
Pooja Bhatt accuses PT Usha of gaslighting wrestlers
Among others supporting the wrestlers is Pooja Bhatt who tweeted in support of them on Friday. She accused athlete and president of Indian Olympic Association PT Usha of gaslighting them. PT Usha said on Thursday that the wrestlers should have approached the IOA instead of going out in the streets against the WFI and its president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh.
Earlier Olympic gold medallists Abhinav Bindra and Neeraj Chopra too came out in support of the protesting wrestlers.
