Year-Ender 2022: The year 2022 saw Bollywood embroiled in many controversies like boycott call, The Kashmir Files just to name a few. And the number of women-centric films remained low even though audiences are drawn to women’s stories in Hindi cinema.

Gangubai Kathiawadi
Gangubai Kathiawadi was a biographical film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film saw Alia Bhatt as the titular character with Ajay Devgn, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, Seema Pahwa and Varun Kapoor in pivotal roles. It depicted the story of a simple girl from Kathiawad who had no choice but to embrace the ways of destiny and swing it in her favour. The film received critical acclaim for its production value and Alia’s performance.
Double XL
This Hindi-language comedy is directed by Satramm Ramani, starring Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Zaheer Iqbal and Mahat Raghavendra in lead roles. The story revolves around two plus size women, one from the heartland of Uttar Pradesh and one from urban New Delhi, who discover themselves as they navigate life, celebrate female friendship and embrace body positivity, breaking the myth that beauty corresponds to size.
Dhaakad
The female-led action thriller had Kangana Ranaut in titular role besides Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta and Saswata Chatterjee.
Kangana as Agent Agni is ruthless in her tactics of handling terrorists and criminals. An orphan, whose parents were killed by an assassin when she was a child, she is raised by an ITF officer and sent to Budapest to gather details about a arms trafficking and human trafficking racket. What happens forms the rest of the plot.
Shabaash Mithu
Srijit Mukherji’s Shabaash Mithu holds your hand and pull you deep inside the life that cricketer Mithali Raj has led. The story goes from little Mithali being a Bharatnatyam dancer to a cricketer played by Tapasee Pannu, and eventually emerging as one of our country’s youngest players to represent India internationally in a sport, dominated by the male counterparts.
Darlings
Alia Bhatt gave one of her best performances in Darlings, a story about a woman’s revenge on her violent husband. With Shefali Shah giving a power packed performance, It showed how a middle-class mother-daughter duo caught in their own circumstantial hang-ups, gradually discovers their inner strength to survive in a city like Mumbai, battling all odds.
Good Luck Jerry
The official remake of Tamil movie, Kolamaavu Kolika, the film is set in Punjab where Jaya Kumari alias Jerry played by Janhvi Kapoor, lives with her mother, Sarbati (Mita Vashisht), and younger sister, Cherry. When her mother is diagnosed with second-stage lung cancer, Jerry has to raise Rs 25 lakhs for the treatment.
Babli Bouncer
Babli Bouncer is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by Madhur Bhandarkar starring Tamannaah. Tamannaah Bhatia is an uneducated young girl from a small village near Delhi where most people are bouncers.
