India on Wednesday has reported 3,82,315 fresh cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the preceding 24 hours, pushing the nationwide infection tally past 20.66 million. In the same time, 3,780 new fatalities were also recorded, taking the country’s Covid-19 death toll to 226,188.
It is the 14th straight day when India recorded more than three lakh cases while over 3,000 casualties have been reported for the past eight days. The county currently has 34,87,229 active cases. A total of 3,38,439 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours after getting cured, and 16,951,731 people in total have recovered from the viral disease, the health ministry said.
The six most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (4,822,902), Kerala (1,664,789), Karnataka (1,690,934), Uttar Pradesh (1,342,413), Tamil Nadu (1,228,064), and Delhi (1,194,552).
The national capital recorded 338 Covid-19 deaths and 19,953 cases in a day with a positivity rate of 26.73 per cent, according to the health bulletin issued by the Delhi health department on Wednesday morning.
29,48,52,078 samples have been tested up to Tuesday (May 4) for Covid-19, of these 15,41,299 samples were tested on Tuesday, according to Indian Council of Medical Research.
The health ministry said that a total of 16,04,94,188 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 14,84,989, who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.
The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday observed that the “death of Covid patients just for non-supplying of oxygen to the hospitals is a criminal act and not less than a genocide” by those responsible for ensuring the continuous procurement and supply.
Meanwhile, the overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 153.9 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.22 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University
