After several European countries halted its rollout over blood clot fears, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday claimed that the safety of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine developed with the Oxford University.
Many European countries including Germany, Italy and France on Monday joined a slew of countries in suspending the vaccine. The development has led to the halt in the plans under which the immunisation program is being carried out.
While many countries have claimed that the vaccine triggered extreme severe relations, the World Health Organization, AstraZeneca and the European Medicine have sworn by its safety. Experts have also claimed that the vaccine shot it safe and there is no link between it and reported blood clots.
The British leader on Monday said that the vaccine jab is completely safe and encourgaed people to take the shot in a bid to fight against the virus that has killed more than 2.6 million people across the globe.
“That vaccine is safe and works extremely well,” Johnson wrote in The Times newspaper.
“It is being made in multiple places from India to the US, as well as Britain, and it is being used around the world,” he added.
Notably, India has emerged as one of the key suppliers of the vaccine candidate. It is being developed by Serum Institute of India locally which is world’s largest manufacturer of the vaccines by volumes. India has supplied the vaccine to 58 million countries.
