Covid-19 cases rising, Centre asks states to identify emergency hotspots, ramp up testing

Mansukh Mandaviya, the union health minister, chaired over a high-level meeting with the health ministers of the states and union territories to discuss the condition of public health preparedness and the status of Covid-19 vaccine after India reported over 6,000 cases of the virus on Friday. He gave states instructions to pinpoint emergency hotspots, intensify testing, and make sure medical infrastructure is prepared.

In order to keep infection under control, Mandaviya emphasised the need for the Center and the states to collaborate like they did with the previous waves of Covid-19.

Also, he instructed health officials to implement a five-fold plan for Covid management, including test, track, treat, immunise, and adherence to Covid-appropriate behaviour.

In order to ensure that patients with Covid-19 receive the proper care and that the medical facilities are ready in case there is an increase in cases, the health minister asked states to increase testing and genome sequencing, identify emergency hotspots, increase vaccination, and make sure hospitals are equipped with the necessary infrastructure.

On April 8 and 9, district administrations and public health officials will discuss Covid-19 management readiness with the state health ministers.

On April 10 and 11, states are urged to hold simulated drills at all medical facilities. The state health ministers were given the order by Mandaviya to visit the hospitals and evaluate the drills.
