Continuing its streak of low numbers of single-day coronavirus cases, India logged in 11,831 new infections in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 1,08,38,194, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Monday. At 84, India saw its lowest one day death toll even as the overall death toll mounted to 1,55,080.
For over a week, the daily new infections have been below 15,000 while the deaths have been below 200-mark for more than a month now.
As per the ministry’s data, there are 1,48,609 active cases as of now after 11,904 patients were discharged in a day. Till now, 1,05,34,505 persons have been discharged. The recovery rate has increased to 97.2 per cent, while the fatality rate is down to 1.43 per cent.
A total of 20,19,00,614 samples have been tested for Covid-19 up to February 7. Of these, 5,32,236 samples were tested on Sunday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Nearly six million (58,12,362) doses of corona vaccine doses have been administered in India since the drive began on January 16 after approval for ‘Covishield’ and ‘Covaxin’.

*Thirty-two districts in Uttar Pradesh have reported zero coronavirus cases, according to the state health department.
*Iranian Minister of Health and Medical Education Saeed Namaki announced that the country’s vaccination drive against the novel coronavirus will begin on Tuesday.
*The UK government has ruled out plans to introduce “vaccine passports” to allow people, who have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus, to travel abroad.
* In the past one week, the US witnessed a significant drop in the number of new confirmed coronavirus cases, deaths, as well as hospitalisations, according to The Covid Tracking Project.
*The Chinese mainland reported 14 new imported Covid-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total number of imported cases to 4,804, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Monday.
Meanwhile, the total number of global coronavirus cases has topped 106 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.31 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
