India continued its low streak of daily cases as it recorded 12,059 new infections in the last 24 hours even as its overall tally mounted to 1,08,26,363, the Ministry of Family and Health Welfare said on Sunday.
For over a week, the country has recorded less than 15,000 new infections daily. Also, the daily Covid-19 death toll has been below the 200-mark for more than a month now.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that there were 78 more Covid-19 fatalities, taking the overall death toll to 1,54,996.
As per the Ministry’s data, there are 1,48,766 active cases at present after 14,488 patients were discharged in a day. Till now, 1,05,22,601 persons have been discharged so far.
The recovery rate has increased to 97.2 per cent, while the fatality rate is down to 1.43 per cent.
A total of 20,13,68,378 samples have been tested for Covid-19 up to February 6. Of these, 6,95,789 samples were tested on Saturday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Nearly 6 million (57,75,322) doses of corona vaccine doses have been administered in India since the drive began on January 16 after approval for ‘Covishield’ and ‘Covaxin’.

*More than 100,000 people in the US have died due to the novel coronavirus since January 1, 2021, as the country is ramping up the rollout of a vaccine against the disease, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
*Canada’s cumulative Covid-19 cases surpassed 800,000 as of Saturday noon, with the total hitting 800,348, including 20,680 deaths, according to CTV.
*Another 18,262 people in Britain have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 3,929,835, according to official figures released on Saturday.
*The Centre said on Saturday that around 55 per cent of health care workers have been vaccinated in the country so far whereas nearly 5 per cent of frontline workers have received the Covid vaccine till date.
*The Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday that it will release the upgraded version of CoWIN app which is currently supervising the ongoing massive vaccination drive against Covid-19 in the country.
Meanwhile, the total number of global coronavirus cases has topped 105.7 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.30 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
