While Covid-19 is currently witnessing a declining trend, several northeast states are witnessing rise in positivity rate. To discuss the situation in the region and to take measures to control the infection, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with the chief minister of eight states on Tuesday to take preventions.
Even as the nationwide positivity has come down to 2.32 per cent, many states in the north east region have been witnessing positivity rate above 10 per cent. Arunachal Pradesh leads the list with 10 districts above 10 per cent positivity rate, whereas Manipur has nine, Meghalaya has six, Assam and Sikkim has four each, Tripura has tree, Mizoram has two, whereas Nagaland has one district with over 10 per cent positivity.
The meeting will be held in virtual mode at 11 am today. The states that are expected to take part in the meeting are Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Manipur Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
Officials from NITI Aayog, Health Minister and other health professionals are expected to attend the meeting. India had recorded 37,154 new infections on Monday, according to the health ministry. The country’s overall caseload stands at 4.50 lakh.
