Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with his parents Gobind Ram Kejriwal and Gita Devi, received the first shot of the COVISHIELD vaccine at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) hospital on Thursday. While walking out of the hospital, the Delhi CM urged people to get the vaccine dose administered a the earliest.
“I took the first shot of Covid-19 vaccine today along with my parents. We have not faced any difficulties or uneasiness. I appeal to people to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest. There should be no reason for any hesitance. Vaccination centres, like the one in Lok Nayak hospital, have excellent facilities and highly trained staff,” said Kejriwal after taking the vaccine.
The immunisation was done as part of the second phase of the vaccination drive in the country, that began on Monday and aims to cover 270 million people of 60 years of age and between 45 and 59 years of age with comorbidities, healthcare workers and frontline workers. The Delhi CM, 52, is diabetic.
The national capital has about drive spans in 192 health facilities, including 136 private hospitals. The vaccines will be administered free of cost at government hospitals and health centres, while private hospitals will charge ₹ 250 per dose. There are around 43 lakh people in the specified category in this phase that are eligible to be administered the vaccine.
“We are in touch with the Central government. If needed, we will increase vaccination centres,” the Chief Minister said today.
