Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday reviewed Covid-19 preparations in the national capital and assured people there is no need to panic. He said Delhi is prepared for any eventuality, adding that the government has all resources including 7,986 beds for Covid patients and oxygen cylinders.
Three deaths in Delhi due to Covid-19
Three people have lost their lives due to Covid-19 in Delhi in last four-five Days as per the data shared by health department. All three patients had co-morbidities and it has been assessed that the Covid-19 was not the primary reason for the death.
The Delhi Chief Minister said the XBB 1.16 variant of Covid is the predominant one at present, accounting for 48 per cent of all positive cases. “It spreads rapidly but is not severe,” he said.
“We have been conducting mock drills,” CM Kejriwal added.
All the cases are also being sent for genome sequencing to timely identify new variants. “We had also conducted testing of samples drawn from sewage and, till mid-February, the Covid positivity result was zero. But in the last 15 days, some samples have turned out positive,” he said.
Delhi government prepared
CM Kejriwal assured that the administration is keeping a close eye on the coronavirus situation. Sufficient oxygen and enough beds and ambulances are available, he said.
While Delhi government has reserved 7,986 beds for Covid-19 patients, but currently, only 66 beds are occupied. The government hospitals are directed to maintain isolation wards for Covid-19 patients, he added.
He also state that all adults in Delhi are fully vaccinated. The second dose of the vaccine has been given to all adults above the age 18.
As of now, there are no guidelines for mandatory masking from the Centre. The Delhi government will provide Centre’s guidelines, Kejriwal said.
