Amid the sudden surge in covid-19 cases in several states in India, Delhi has now made a covid-19 negative test mandatory for travellers on arrival.
The new rule has come in effect for five states including Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab. The new set of rules by the Aam Aadmi Party government will come into effect from Saturday and will continue till March 15.
The move comes after 86 of the new virus cases have emerged from the above mentioned five states. Maharashtra and Kerala alone have been credited for 75 per cent of the country’s active cases. The negative RT-PCR certificate should not be older than 72 hour for those arriving in the state by flights, trains and buses.
Meanwhile, On Tuesday, Maharashtra recorded the highest number of 5,210 new cases, followed by Kerala (2,212) and Tamil Nadu (449). Maharashtra reported 18 deaths, followed by Kerala with 16 and Punjab 15, said the Union Health Ministry.
The report shall be verified at the time of boarding by airline staff, a circular issued by the Additional Chief Secretary Department of Health and Family Welfare Jawaid Akhtar said.
Besides Delhi, many other states including Uttarakhand and Karnataka have also issued the similar guidelines for those traveling from these five states.
