In a massive surge, Delhi on Saturday recorded 2,716 fresh Covid cases, the highest single-day rise since May 21, and one death while the positivity rate mounted to 3.64 per cent, according to data shared by the city’s health department.
Saturday’s tally of coronavirus cases was 51 per cent higher than the figures registered a day before.
On Friday and Thursday, 1,796 and 1,313 cases were recorded with a positivity rate of 1.73 per cent and 2.44 per cent respectively, as per official figures.

However, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that Level 1 (yellow) of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) would continue for now as hospital occupancy is still low. Further restrictions will be reviewed soon, he added.
According to the health bulletin issued on Saturday, of the 8,883 dedicated Covid beds in Delhi, 247 were occupied, including by suspected cases, while 8,636 beds were lying vacant.
The daily case count on Saturday breached the 2000-mark after a gap of over seven months. The huge spike in fresh cases in the span of the last few days in the national capital is being recorded amid a significant jump in cases of the new Omicron variant of coronavirus.
