Health Tips: Thinking about Intermittent Fasting as your next weight loss alternative? Find out the pros and cons

Health Tips: Weight issues are pertinent in our current times. No matter how hard we try it is difficult to remain unfazed by the challenges of weight management. While it is easier for some to gain weight, it is equally exhausting to lose it. Some have found the way of Intermittent fasting to be really productive and helpful in their overall fitness and weight loss journey. But is it beneficial for you? What are its pros and cons? Check out the details below.

Health Tips: What is Intermittent Fasting?

As the name suggests, Intermittent Fasting is a schedule in which an individual switches between eating food and fasting. It basically trains your body to consume food at specific predefined intervals. Sometimes people prefer fasting for 6 – 12 hours and then having a meal or two between predefined intervals. Malaika Arora is one of the Bollywood divas who follows the way of intermittent fasting. She eats her last meal at approximately 6:30 pm, replaces her breakfast with a detox drink and nuts and directly goes for lunch in the afternoon. This allows her to fast for around 18 hours a day while consuming two full meals.

Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

One of the major benefits of intermittent fasting is that it aids your weight loss journey radically. It works on the principle of metabolic switching in which the starved body uses up stored sugars and thus begins the fat-burning process. Apart from that, it also helps in building verbal memory, managing heart health, improving physical performance, and protecting from Type 2 diabetes.

Disadvantages of Intermittent Fasting

There are no serious side effects of intermittent fasting; however, before taking any diet plan it is strictly advised to consult an expert. Individuals following the path of intermittent fasting might find it extremely difficult to control their hunger and cravings initially. It may also cause digestive issues and acidity in some people. It may also cause irregularities in sleep patterns and loss of energy.
