New Delhi: India recorded 43,846 new Covid-19 positive cases in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day rise so far this year, taking the nationwide coronavirus tally to 11,599,130, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday. Country’s current Covid-19 death toll is nearing the 160,000-mark. With 197 new deaths, the death toll is now over 1.59 lakh. Six states account for 86.8 per cent of the new covid-19 deaths and Maharashtra tops the chart with 92 causalities reported on Sunday.
The daily rise in infections was the highest recorded in 115 days. The death toll increased to1,59,755with 197 daily new fatalities, the highest in 97 days, the data updated at 8 am showed. As many as 44,489 new infections were recorded in a span of 24 hours on November 26.
The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (2,422,021), Kerala (1,098,291), Karnataka (965,102), Andhra Pradesh (892,740), and Tamil Nadu (863,363).
Active Covid-19 cases recorded at 3,09,087, while 1,11,30,288 people have recovered from disease, Union Health Ministry said.
So far, 4.46 crore doses of corona vaccine have been administered in the country since the drive began on January 16 after the approval for ‘Covishield’ and ‘Covaxin’.
More than 16.12 lakh doses were administered on a single day on Saturday.
