India reported 1,109 new cases of Covid-19 and 43 deaths in last 24 hours. According to the Union Health Ministry data, country’s active cases currently stand at over 11,000 cases, the recovery rate is at 98.76 per cent. India also saw 43 Covid fatalities in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 5,21,530.
The ministry said that the active cases comprise 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76 per cent.
The daily positivity rate was recorded as 0.23 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was 0.22 per cent, according to the ministry.
Fresh cases in Tamil Nadu dropped to 26 on Thursday, when the state discharged 37 patients from the registry. There were no deaths and 247 patients continued to take treatment for the viral infection, either at home or in hospitals.
Across India, there are around 11,871 active cases, which translates to about nine per million population. At least eight states have higher active cases per million population, considered a more scientific metric than the absolute numbers.
Maharashtra currently has just seven active cases per one million (10 lakh) population, among the lowest in the past two years. If this indicator is compared with the earlier months, there were nearly 35,000 cases per million population at the height of the second wave in April last year and 2,355 cases during the third wave peak this January.
