India reported 94,052 new COVID-19 cases and 6,148 new deaths on Thursday. The country has so far reported a total of 2,91,83,121 cases and 3,59,676 deaths.
The number of death reported has been the highest in the country since the onset of the pandemic. The unprecedented surge in number of fatality has been recorded as Bihar fixed its cumulative fatality toll on Wednesday. The state, which has prior reported fewer than 5,500 deaths due to Covid-19, has now said more than 9,000 people succumbed to coronavirus disease.
The active cases in the country have reduced to 11,67,952 after 60 days comprising 4 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid recovery rate has improved to 94.77 per cent, the data said.
A total of 1,51,367 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total discharge to 2,76,55,493 till date.
The Health Ministry said that a total of 24,27,26,693 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 33,79,261 who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 37,21,98,253 samples have been tested up to June 9 for Covid-19. Of these 20,04,690 samples were tested on Wednesday.
The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (5,863,880), Karnataka (2,728,248), Kerala (2,673,166), Tamil Nadu (2,292,025), Andhra Pradesh (1,779,773).
