With the fresh stock of COVID-19 vaccines being made available by the Mumbai civic body, the halted vaccination drive resumes at 62 of the 71 designated private hospitals in the city from April 12.
In Mumbai, 49 civic and government-run institutions are designated as vaccination centres while 71 private hospitals have the facility to administer the anti-Covid vaccines.
BMC reported that they received 2.35 lakh doses of the vaccine from the central government later this week. After which BMC approved the vaccination of 62 private hospitals in Mumbai.
These 62 hospitals are among the 71 private hospitals where the vaccination campaign was stopped due to lack of vaccine.
In the city, more than 1.6 million citizens have been vaccinated that includes healthcare, and frontline workers. In the city, daily around 50,000 citizens are vaccinated but the number dropped recently because of the shortage of vaccine doses last week.
Meanwhile, the BMC on Sunday said it will now allow private hospitals to set up Covid-19 vaccination camps at private offices too.
Speaking on the tie-up with private offices, Dr Mangala Gomare, chief of BMC’s public health department said, “We will give permissions to private hospitals to tie up with offices having over 100 employees to set up vaccination camps there. This will help us cover maximum citizens in the permitted age group.”
