A dangerous condition known as Cervical Spondylitis causes swelling in the spinal cord. This condition mostly affects the neck’s cervical spine. It is sometimes referred to as neck arthritis and cervical osteoarthritis. The disc, spinal cord, and neck bone are the areas primarily impacted by this illness.
Causes of Cervical Spondylitis
People who work long hours and bend their necks frequently are more likely to complain of cervical spondylosis. Other possible causes of Cervical Spondylitis include:
- Being overweight
- Hefty weight lifting
- Any previous neck injuries
- Spine procedures
- Working for an extended period of time while bending
What is Appropriate Posture?
AIIMS Doctor Priyanka Sehrawat talked about this condition and she revealed the correct posture for the patients who are going through this disease. The doctor revealed that the cervical spine is the spine behind our neck. Normally it has a forward bent curvature like this. When we have disc changes, when we have cervical spondylosis, this curvature gets lost. First, it becomes flat and then it may even bend backwards. That is when your nerves get compressed and you have all the symptoms. Posture is a big role.
When you are sitting on a chair, keep your feet flat on the ground. Your feet should be flat on the ground. The back should be straight and the head and neck in a neutral position. Your ears should be in a straight line above your shoulders. Your ears should not be forward or backwards. If you are watching something on a desktop or doing some work on your laptop, make sure that the centre of the screen is straight in front of your nose so that this neutral position of the head and neck is maintained.
