Right Time to Take Vitamin B12: Dr. Priyanaka Sehrawat recently shared on Instagram what is the best time to take important vitamins and minerals including iron, vitamin D, and vitamin B12. She gave insightful information in her educational film about how these nutrients are absorbed and how to include them into our everyday routines.
Understanding Vitamin Solubility
Dr. Sehrawat began by stressing the need of comprehending vitamin solubility. Vitamins that are soluble in water, such as vitamin C, B12, B1, B2, B6, and B9 (folic acid), can be absorbed under normal circumstances. Nonetheless, it is advised to take them empty-handed, ideally an hour before or after breakfast, in order to optimise their absorption.
Enhancing Absorption of Fat-Soluble Vitamin D
Going on, Dr. Sehrawat emphasised the importance of taking fat-soluble vitamin D with meals that contain fat. To improve absorption, she suggested taking vitamin D tablets after the biggest meal of the day. She also suggested putting vitamin D powder in milk instead of water because milk’s calcium helps the body absorb vitamin D.
Regarding iron supplements, Dr. Sehrawat recommended taking it one hour after breakfast, ideally without food. To improve absorption, she also advised combining iron pills with foods or supplements high in vitamin C, such oranges or lemon water. She specifically advised avoiding taking iron supplements with calcium as this could prevent the absorption of the iron.
Importance of Informed Vitamin and Mineral Consumption
The wise counsel of Dr. Sehrawat emphasises how crucial it is to consume vitamins and minerals with awareness in order to maintain good health. People can make the most of these vital nutrients and guarantee optimal absorption by adhering to her instructions regarding timing and food pairing.
