Chaitra Navratri 2023: How to stay hydrated and energized during Navratri fasting; Know tips here

Chaitra Navratri

Chaitra Navratri 2023: Chaitra Navratri is a Hindu festival that is celebrated over a period of nine days during the Hindu month of Chaitra, also known as Hindu New Year. The festival is celebrated to worship and seek the blessings of the nine forms of Goddess Durga. The word “Navratri” means “nine nights” in Sanskrit.

The festival is celebrated with great fervor and devotion in many parts of India. Devotees fast during the nine-day period and offer prayers and offerings to the Goddess Durga. Each day of Navratri is dedicated to a particular form of the Goddess, and devotees offer special prayers and perform puja rituals to seek her blessings. Fasting is a customary and traditional ritual that holds great significance in many cultures. While it can be therapeutic for the body when done correctly, it is crucial to follow certain dietary precautions to reap its benefits but we are here to tell you some tips on how to stay hydrated and energized during Navratri fasting.

Focus on Hydration

One of the essential things to keep in mind is hydration. Whether fasting or not, one should never neglect their water intake, as staying hydrated is vital for the proper functioning of the body. When fasting, restrictions on food and drink intake can make it challenging to stay hydrated. Therefore, stocking up on refreshing and hydrating drinks such as coconut water, milk, or fruit juices can help you stay fresh throughout the day. It is advisable to avoid excessive consumption of tea or coffee.

Overeating can harm your health

Overeating during fasts can lead to indigestion and other stomach ailments. While it is tempting to indulge in delicious food during this time, moderation is key. Refraining from refined sugar and opting for natural sugar products such as sugarcane and jaggery is a healthy choice. Choosing healthy snacking options like makhana, sweet potato fries, nuts, and fruits over fried and greasy food is highly recommended.

Avoid Processed food

Including fiber-rich foods in your diet can help keep you full for longer and prevent overeating. Foods such as pumpkin, colocasia, bananas, and potatoes are fast-friendly and rich in fiber. Avoiding processed food and market-bought sweets and namkeens, which are often unhealthy and made from substandard, refined oil, is crucial during fasting.

Take Rest

Lastly, the body requires plenty of rest and relaxation during fasting. Getting enough sleep and practicing mindful meditation exercises can aid in detoxifying the body. It is crucial not to overexert oneself during these nine days and refrain from putting too much strain on the body.

Celebrating and fasting can dehydrate the body; therefore, it is essential to chew on something that provides energy to the body and avoid staying hungry for prolonged periods. Additionally, one must make healthy food choices to boost immunity and ward off infections during fasting.
