Diwali 2024: Diwali is a time to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. People take steps to invite prosperity and blessings into their homes. However, some donations made during this festival may block your wealth. Here are items to avoid donating on Diwali 2024 to prevent financial setbacks.
Don’t Donate Broken or Old Items
During Diwali cleaning, we often find broken or old items we want to give away. This could include things like torn clothes or damaged furniture. However, avoid donating these before Lakshmi Puja. Such donations may bring financial difficulties because they are considered symbols of lack or negativity. Keeping your home clutter-free is important, but giving away broken items can invite unwanted energy.
Think Twice Before Donating Black Items
Diwali celebrates positivity and abundance. It’s a time to brighten our homes and lives. Donating black-colored items can invite negativity and misfortune into your life. Black is often associated with bad luck in many cultures. So, think carefully before giving away anything black, such as clothes or decorative items, as it may disrupt the festive spirit and your financial well-being.
Steer Clear of Donating Salt
While helping others is noble, don’t donate salt on Diwali. Salt is seen as a negative element in many traditions. Donating salt can lead to financial issues and strain personal relationships, as it symbolizes loss or bitterness. It is also believed that giving salt can upset Goddess Lakshmi, leading to bad luck in your household. Instead, consider donating sweet items to promote happiness and harmony.
Avoid Lending Money on Diwali Evening
You can shop freely, but don’t lend money on Diwali evening. It’s a time meant for joy and celebration, not for financial dealings. Lending money may upset Goddess Lakshmi, who is believed to value prosperity. If you lend money, it might symbolise that you are not ready to receive wealth yourself. Instead, focus on enjoying the festivities and sharing joy with loved ones.
Don’t Donate Oil or Ghee
Oil and ghee are essential for lighting diyas (lamps) on Diwali, representing light and joy. Donating these items is considered inauspicious because they are linked to prosperity and abundance. If you give away oil or ghee, it may symbolise that you are giving away your chances of having enough wealth. Goddess Lakshmi could withdraw her blessings if these are given away, so keep them for your own celebrations.

This year, Amavasya begins on October 31 at 3:52 PM and ends on November 1 at 6:16 PM. The best time for Lakshmi Puja on Diwali is from 5:36 PM to 8:11 PM on October 31.
