Eid-ul-Adha 2023: Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakra Eid or Bakrid, is observed by Muslims worldwide. Celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm, the festival falls on the tenth day of Dhul-Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar. The date of Eid-ul-Adha is proportional to the sighting of the moon. Therefore, it keeps on changing every year and is celebrated on different days in different parts of the world.
When will Eid-ul-Adha be celebrated in India?
In places such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, the UK, the US, and Canada the occasion will be celebrated on June 28. India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Malaysia will celebrate Eid-ul-Adha this year on June 29.
Eid-ul-Adha: Significance
Eid ul-Adha is celebrated following the completion of the annual holy pilgrimage of Muslims to Hajj. On this day, Muslims sacrifice cattle, such as goats, sheep, or camels, to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail in an act of pure dedication towards Allah.
On this day, Muslims from all around the world dress up in their traditional best and spend time with their family. Some people also visit their families and exchange gifts, often referred to as Eidi.
Eid-ul-Adha: Dishes and delicacies
The occasion calls for a feast with an array of mouth-watering dishes that grace the dining tables. Syrian Muhammara, mutton biryani, and green chicken kebabs are some dishes that are devoured on this occasion.
