Eid-ul-Adha 2024, or Bakrid, is one of the largest celebrations in the Muslim world. The date of this year’s celebration is June 17, 2024. Numerous Muslim religious authorities in India said that June 17 will be the day of Bakrid celebrations following the observation of the moon during Zilhijja. This holiday is also known as “Bakra Eid” because goats are sacrificed during it. In light of this, allow us to explain the significance of this celebration.
History and significance of Eid ul Adha
Islamic theology holds that Allah requested the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice one of his most treasured possessions in a dream. Prophet Ibrahim began to consider what may be sacrificed after this. He gave it a lot of thought before deciding that his son is the one he loves the most. He now decided to sacrifice his son in such a circumstance. He encountered the devil while travelling with his son to be sacrificed, and the demon asked him, “Why are you sacrificing your son?” If you must offer a sacrifice, offer an animal.
After giving this some serious thinking, Prophet Ibrahim concluded that it would be dishonest to offer the sacrifice of someone else in place of his son. He chose to sacrifice his son as a result. The need to be a father began to trouble him when it was his turn to sacrifice his son. Thus, the prophet Ibrahim blindfolded himself before offering his son as a sacrifice.
The shocking part was that, upon taking the towel from his eyes, he saw that his kid had been slaughtered in place of a goat and that the boy was still alive. The Muslim community began offering goat sacrifices as a result of this tragedy.
