Health Tips: The rise in pollutants and other toxins in the air is leading to a variety of issues. These include numerous cardiovascular, neurovascular and respiratory problems. Therefore, these toxins are extremely harmful to the body when inhaled. However, these also have several harmful effects on mental health as well. Therefore, clean air is not only crucial for physical well-being but also for mental. However, its effects can be short-term or even long-term.

Stress

Air pollution in the ozone contains particles that are known to be stress-inducing in human bodies. This results in the production of cytokine in the brain, causing oxidative stress.

Depression

An increase in air pollution leads to inflammation in the body. Therefore, high levels of inflammation lead to the development of depression.

Increased risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s

Increased exposure to pollution can lead to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. This is because air pollution affects the cognitive functioning of the body which may lead to symptoms of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Affects the quality of sleep

Air pollution increases the risk of forming sleep apnea. This not only affects physical health, the lack of good quality sleep affects mental well-being as well.

Social isolation

In places with extreme pollution, the environment becomes so toxic that it becomes difficult to step out. During these times, the lack of social life can cause isolation, which may further lead to other mental health issues.
