Vastu Tips: A Mandir is the most holy place of the house. According to Hindu traditions, most households have a home temple where they pray every day. The temple is usually ornamented to look beautiful. Moreover, there are a couple of things to keep in mind before installing a mandir in your house. According to Vastu Shastra, there are a few specific dos and don’ts that can affect the positive effects of a mandir.
What does Mandir symbolise
A Mandir is supposed to bring light and positivity to the house as it is where the gods reside. Therefore, placing it the wrong way could cause negative energy to be imbibed in the house or stop from gods energy from entering the house.
Placement of Mandir
- The Mandir should be kept in the northeast direction of the house. Apart from the northeast, it could be kept in the north or east of the house. However, northeast is considered to be the most effective and it lets solar energy enter the house
- The idols in the mandir should never be kept in front of each other. Moreover, the idols should be facing the northeast direction of the house, facing outwards. Furthermore, the idols and the walls should have at least a gap of 6 inches.
- It is important to note that the doors and windows of the mandir should face the north or the east direction. Moreover, this unit should be placed in a clutter-free area, that is open and spacious. Vastu Shastra also believes that the Puja Area should also have two doors or one shutter with two doors.
- The ground floor is the ideal place to keep the mandir as opposed to other floors. it will bring the most amount of positivity into the house. Moreover, it is to be placed on the front verandah of the house
- The lamps and diyas should be placed in the southeast direction of the mandir. Diyas can be kept in the east or north of the mandir. This will bring good health to the family
- Face the north or east while praying in front of the mandir
- The mandir should be decorated with auspicious items such as a swastika, books and a bell. Ringing a bell invokes good energy throughout the house, while the scene of the incense stick does the same.
