Worldwide Health Scare? 95% of the World Face Some Issues, 33% Battle Five or More Conditions: Check Report

Global Burden of Disease: 95% of the World Faces Illnesses

Global Burden of Disease

Global Burden of Disease: The number of people experiencing health issues is paradoxically rising as modern lifestyles get busier and technology gets better. Even though we live in a time of technological advancements, more people than ever are dealing with chronic illnesses and general health issues. There is a concerning disparity between the availability of healthcare and the real health of the population, which makes it difficult for many people to stay healthy.

With over 8 billion people on the planet, the number of those dealing with health issues is staggering. A report from Science Direct highlights that more than 95% of the global population is suffering from some form of illness. Shockingly, around 33% of people are battling five or more different health conditions.

Rising Global Health Crisis

The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study from 2013 that was published in The Lancet indicated that just 4.3% of people worldwide are in perfect health. In the present day, the situation has deteriorated much further. The Covid-19 pandemic has only made matters worse by increasing the number of individuals experiencing health problems.

Between 1990 and 2013, researchers analyzed over 35,000 sources of data from 188 countries. What they discovered was concerning. It became clear that a large portion of the world’s population is living with one or more health problems.

Common Health Issues Affecting Millions

Among the most common issues are conditions like lower back pain, depression, anemia, sore throats, and age-related hearing loss. Nearly half of the global population is suffering from declining health, often due to musculoskeletal disorders or mental health and substance abuse disorders.

The Alarming Rise of Diabetes

Back in 2013, experts sounded the alarm about the growing threat of diabetes, and today, their warnings have come true. According to the Diabetes Atlas report, the number of people with diabetes has surged in the last decade. Today, a staggering 53 crore individuals are living with this chronic condition.

New Diseases Are Emerging Faster Than Ever

In recent years, medical science has faced an uphill battle in keeping up with the rapid emergence of new diseases. The constant struggle to find solutions and maintain good health has become one of the most significant challenges in our modern world.
