A landslide on the outskirts of Shimla city left a woman dead and two others critically injured on Wednesday, a senior state disaster management official said while at least four people have been feared washed away in flash floods triggered by cloud burst in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district.
Shimla district emergency operations centre (DEOC) said the incident occurred at Dhalli.
Malana and Manikaran in Kullu district have been cut off from the rest of the state following a cloudburst and rescue efforts are underway. Six people are missing in the district, officials said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state along with thunderstorms and lightning likely at isolated places over the plains, low and mid-hills of the state. Thunderstorms and lightning have been predicted over the high hills of the state.
The injured have been admitted to a hospital.
SP Kullu Gurdev Sharma said, using information from the Kullu District Emergency Operations Centre, that at least five livestock have also been lost in the flash floods.
“Due to the floods, seven houses have suffered heavy damage while three projects have also been affected. Water from a dam is being released and people have been asked not to go near the river banks,” Sharma added.

Since Thursday morning, Kullu is receiving heavy rainfall and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Wednesday as well.
In addition to this, several areas of Punjab and Haryana continued to brave heavy downpours during this period.
According to the India Meteorological Centre in Shimla, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely to occur at a few places in the districts of Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Mandi, and Una on Wednesday.
